“We may think of them in the broadest terms as being angels, but there are times when there is some distinction between heavenly beings and angels. All of them, however, are always found worshiping and serving God.” - Pastor Jeff Cranston  

Hello Kitchen Table Theology Family! In this episode, Pastor Jeff and Jen Denton begin a new series on Angelology. In the next 6 episodes, we’ll dive into what the Bible teaches us about angels, demons, and heavenly beings  

[00:01]  We See Angels Everywhere, But Do We Even Know What They Are? 

  • Common questions about angels 
  • The misunderstanding, miscommunication, and miss-comprehension about angels 

 [06:37]  What Can We Learn About Angels? 

  • According to Dr. Wayne Grudem’s definition, angels are creative spiritual beings, with moral judgment and high intelligence, but without physical bodies
  • Created spiritual beings
    • They are part of the creative acts of God when He spoke the universe into existence (Nehemiah 9:6)
  • Moral judgment and high intelligence
    • Some of them sinned and fell from their heavenly positions (2 Peter 2:4) 
  • Without physical bodies
    • Angels are unseen by us but can take on a bodily form when permitted by God and appearing to people (Mark 16:5)

  • Cherubim (Genesis 3:24, Ezekiel 10:14, Exodus 25:20)
  • Seraphim (Isaiah 6:2,6)
  • The Living Creatures (Rev 4:8)

[17:48] Addressing More Misconceptions About Angelology 

  • Is there a ranking within angels' authority?
    • We see in the Bible that there is order within the angels. (Rev 12:7-12)
  • Guardian angels 
    • God sends His angels to protect us (Psalm 91:11-12)
  • We cannot assume that every individual has a guardian angel in Matt 18:10
